For three years now, the annual event which has brought me the deepest satisfaction and greatest joy has been the B.A.A. Half Marathon. Each October, after months of hard work, dedication, resilience, and perseverance, Sole Train youth and mentors put it all to the test. Together, Sole Train youth and mentors complete (some youth say “conquer!”) an event that to most seemed completely impossible just a few months prior.
It is beyond inspiring to see these courageous youth and their committed mentors find strength within themselves and each other, and believe that a goal dreamed is indeed possible, when the right supports are in place. To see the smiles and the sweat, to hear the grunting and the laughter, and to know the determination that resides in these participants during the 13.1 miles of this challenging course is inspiring on its own. But then to hear the cheers, see the hugs, and feel the sense of togetherness, victory, and newfound confidence, coupled with the belief that so much else is truly “possible”, is simply incredible!
